Josh Marshall awards Rep. Heather Wilson

...tonight we're awarding Congresswoman Heather Wilson (R-NM) the first annual Heather Wilson "I think the American people are a bunch of god-forsaken idiots" Award.  post

For her blatant lie in a CNN interview Wednesday:

She would have at least gotten an Honorable Mention for a particularly loopy point about a connection between al Qaida and 'Iraq'. But she hit it out of the park with this one.

After detailing all the reasons why the president's pre-war rationales for war make sense in retrospect, she uncorked this beauty. "And to me," she told CNN's Heidi Collins, "the most important thing was his biological weapons program, which we've now confirmed he was continuing to pursue up to the day of the invasion, and the ability to deliver those biological weapons against Americans on American soil."

I don't know, Josh. I think maybe you could be giving representative Wilson too much credit. I would suggest that it is not inconceivable that she herself still believes that. I have read some pretty ignorant statements by congresspersons since 9/11. (I expect I could have read ignorant statements by them before that, but I wasn't reading congressperson statements then.) And if I never told you the story about a certain congresswoman from the state of Missouri on vacation in Athens during heavy rioting a few years ago, well....

Okay, I'll tell. I just will omit the name.

She was being driven by a Greek chauffeur to do some shopping in Athens. Her heart was apparently set on buying a carpet from a store that had been recommended to her. When she gave the driver the address of the store, he told her they wouldn't be able to go there because that was in the heart of the district where the rioting was occurring. And she said....."But it's after four o'clock."

True story.

So, anyway, Josh gives Condi Rice honorable mention, and concludes:

If you see statements from anyone who you think should knock Rep. Wilson off her throne, please drop me a line.
