"Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan tried to tell us that a big part of the labor problem is relative education levels between nations. He noted that our high school seniors don't know as much as seniors in other countries. But that doesn't work for a couple of reasons. In Oct. 2001, this country passed an ignominious milestone: For the first time ever, the number of college-educated unemployed surpassed the number of unemployed who don't have high school diplomas. I'll say that a different way: there are more highly educated unemployed in this country than highly uneducated unemployed." |
