While Hugo was trying to reveal dirty tricks...
Coincidentally (?), the hacking has occurred while President Chavez was making a presentation regarding US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) funding of sectors of the Venezuelan opposition which are trying to find ways to oust Chavez from power. The NED is a “non-partisan” Washington-based group which finances what they claim to be pro-democracy projects throughout the world ... including in Venezuela.
Similar "coincidental" hacking and interference with pro-Venezuelan Government internet services, servers and connections has occurred frequently over the last two years at critical times during Venezuela’s tumultuous recent history ... and appears to be on the increase in the last hours. article
The referendum attempt by Chavez' opposition is taking some considerable time, and the opposition is restless. The CNE (in charge of making sure all the signatures are kosher) has promised to have results of the count by February 28. There have already been protests and riots. Two weeks could be a very long time under such tensions. But, what I'm wondering is what happens if the CNE rules that the opposition has not met the signature requirements to implement a recall vote? Will they get really violent then?
A march on the CNE is planned by the opposition today. Could be trouble.
Stay tuned.
