UPDATE: Even worse! You are still allowed to fill your swimming pool!
I just got word that the watering I did of the barely surviving trees and shrubs in the landscape is verboten. In all their wisdom, however, the Texas Powers That Be say it is okay to wash your car at home!!! No, you may not save your landscape, but by god, you can wash your effing car.
Galveston's edict says that on certain days at certain times, it is still permissible to wash your vehicle, but under no circumstances are you to water outdoor plant life. (I'm waiting to see what they're going to do about the hundreds of trees they just replaced on Broadway.)
Supposedly, you can still water your house plants, which means my entire balcony of potted plants (and there are quite a few) will come inside the door to get watered.
Yes, I believe in conservation, and yes, I understand we are in a severe drought, but as long as some asshat can have a sparkling clean car, I can save my plants.
FURTHER UPDATE:
I just read this in a letter to the editor of the local paper.
Oh, here’s a good one: Did you know that if you have your Galveston home on the market and have not resided there for some time, thus using no water (actually, mine has been turned off) and producing no waste, you will continue to be billed $53 monthly for water usage and the usual $17 for trash pickup? Oh and, of course, for waste water. This news comes to me this morning from a very nice lady at the water department. She said it’s a city ordinance or commission thing or some such nonsense. Later, Galveston. Really ... later.
Toni J. Talada
Well, Toni won’t be able to not water her landscape for any less.
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
