Well, what did you expect? Peace or something?
Isn't it fine how the world's political climate today is so open? I mean, when we went to "remove" Fidel Castro, it was kept under wraps as the ugly option assassinating foreign leaders should be. But now, we're proud to go in and "remove" Saddam Hussein.
And now, apparently a senior Israeli military officer is bragging about being ready to "remove" Arafat - just say the word.
A certain unnamed (yes, the nameless voices again) military officer is quoted:
The IDF is ready to carry out the Cabinet's decision to remove Yasser Arafat the moment the orders are given, a senior military source told The Jerusalem Post Wednesday.
"We have presented plans showing the risks and the chances of the operation itself, including the chances to remove him alive or not," the senior officer said.
...The senior military officer said that the Jewish state was capable of violent rage against an enemy and warned that there could be a point where the Palestinians could certainly spark it.
Could be a point? Future? Israel has not already been exhibiting a violent rage against Palestine? Wow. I don't know that I want to be around when she does, then.
"(Dresden) or Nagisaki or Hiroshima?" he sighed, referring to allied bombing of German civilians and two US atomic bombings during the Second World War. "I don't think we are at that point but it could be that the Palestinians will bring us to this at some point," the senior military officer.
"If it becomes clear to us that even after Arafat the leadership that will take over is not a partner for any kind of solution or arrangement I presume Israeli society will start to discuss other options.
What's the matter with people? Is it something in the water on this planet?
No, no. Don't go away. It gets worse.
The same officer goes on to discuss Israel's attack on Syria and the future possibilities:
"Imagine this F-15 flying 50 meters above Assad's palace at 1 a.m. in the morning, with all of is thrusters directed exactly over the palace and no one even detected it until it was over the palace. This is embarrassing not to mention unpleasant," the senior officer said with a chuckle.
"Syria understands that a Western army like the IDF, with the capabilities shown by the Americans in Iraq, an army which is capable of locating a car of terrorists in the middle of a refugee camp and hit them with precision guided munitions (PGM), is an army that can also deliver PGMs to tanks, bunkers and headquarters and to palaces."
Those great precision guided munitions that could ostensibly find their way into an open window on a specified floor of a targeted building? Those? The ones that blew up thousands of innocent civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq and even landed in neighboring countries? Those PGMs?
Bully bragging and wholesale slaughter. Where did all these testosterone-driven, war lusting juveniles in grown men's bodies come from? Even my teenaged son had recognized the foolish and ridiculous bravado of the American military plan to drop leaflets trying to scare Taliban fighters into dropping their guns and running. Leaflets telling them they had no hope - our missiles were so wonderful they could be targeted right through their windows. "But those guys are in caves," he said.
This whole Middle Eastern insane situation reads like an over-the-hill version of Lord of the Flies. Who's going to be the King of the Mountain when the DU-saturated dust settles on this world?
Apparently, humans are a god-damned joke. Bring me more sand. My head is starting to get cold.
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
