What really happened?

On the heels of my post about the Navy lawyer who is finally admitting that the LBJ administration covered up the fact that Israel intentionally attacked the USS Liberty in 1967, the website What Really Happened has got me going on a hunt for more information about the circumstances surrounding the bombing of a military barracks in Beirut in 1983 that killed over 200 U.S. Marines, and who was responsible for it.

There's a lot of information to absorb here, but I'll list the links I've looked at that seem to be saying the bulk of the responsibility lies squarely with our allies the Israelis.

20 Years Later: Nothing Learned, So More American Soldiers Will Die - "the result of naiveté, righteousness, and boundless folly"

Allies don't let our soldiers die. Did Israel deliberately allow 241 American Marines to die? - "Yes, says Victor Ostrovsky, a former Israeli secret agent."

Victor Ostrovsky - "a former Mossad agent says its motto is 'By way of deception, thou shalt do war' "

This whole business is coming at a time when the issue of anti-semitism as a useful hammer to prevent us from questioning our support of Israel is boiling just beneath the surface of all our country's affairs. Look for the pot to boil over soon.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway....
