"Americans are safer today than they were two years ago, and America is freer today than at any time in the history of human freedom," Ashcroft said. article
And my friend Tom says:
After finding the knives, matches and all else on the SW plane it will be interesting to see the fall out. After spending millions to get us to stink up the airports and ditch our finger nail clippers it still seems that TSA has some big holes. A while ago I traveled and forgot that I had my pocket knife with me. I had already sent my luggage through so I put the knife in my pack alongside my camera, keys, metal glasses case and sent it through. No problem. On Wednesday I flew back from Baltimore. The line was about a block, really!, long to get into the terminal screening. When I got to the point where the line was zig zagging I watched one of the over paid TSA screeners. He is the one who is supposed to look at the screen. He was lolly gagging. After watching his stare I could see that he was spending more time looking at pretty women than the X-ray machine. I feel really secure knowing that knuckleheads like him are qualifying for a federal pension.
Back to you, John:
"We are freer, and we are doing it respecting the rights and civil liberties. No court in America has ruled that the Patriot Act has infringed anyone's constitutional liberty on even a single charge."
Oh my, where to start....and there won't be a place to stop....but.....
Does the average citizen hearing those words have any idea how long it takes to bring an action of that type and then have it adjudicated? We haven't had the stupid ACT long enough. But I think we certainly have some indications that there is a slight problem with it "respecting the rights and civil liberties".
And let's put the whole story out there, John. The courts are having a heck of a time doing what they're supposed to do, considering the DoJ's attitude toward civil liberties. Maybe that's it, John? It depends on what the meaning of "civil" is?
And...let's remember that there are different applications of the meaning of "liberties", depending upon who you are in this country. Huh, Rush?
Public apology: On behalf of my personal piece of Missouri, I apologize to the rest of the country for giving you John Ashcroft.
Impeach and Repeal the PATRIOT ACT.
....or do what you want....you will anyway.
