You can't always get what you want

But if you try sometimes....

In its second high-profile turnabout of the week, the Bush administration agreed yesterday to give the independent commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks full access to the papers of former President Clinton.

The decision came after commission officials pressed the White House to turn over thousands of pages of documents that had been shipped from the former president's archives for review by the commission.

The White House received 11,000 pages of Clinton documents, but turned over less than 25 percent of them to the commission despite repeated requests for all of them, according to commission officials and a top aide to the former president.

Hey, those Bushites might not be on the ball when it comes to protecting you from terrorist attacks, but they're all over protecting your unborn fetus (with a deterrent measure, which will surely change the mind of that guy who's going to murder you, because he'll be afraid of the extra punishment for murdering your unborn).

And they might not have paid attention to Richard Clarke and George Tenet when they told them a thousand times that al Qa'ida was the singlemost imminent threat to national security, but they sure paid attention when that photo op signing of an abortion bill backfired because they had all back-slapping, grinning men in the picture, and not a woman (who might possibly be affected by the bill) in sight.

Bush signs the Unborn Victims of Violence Act into law.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
