Italian Hostages in Iraq

While we were in Venezuela, Bob kept us updated on the situation in Iraq. Apparently there has been an ongoing game of leverage with 40-some "coalition" hostages.

Today's news is that three Italian hostages are going to be killed unless the Italian people organize demonstrations against their government's participation in the occupying coalition. For me, this is a novel demand by hostage takers - a demand of the people of a country, and not the government.

But then, the old "rules" of engagement are not always applicable these days, are they?
