Okay, but whose freakin' money is he going to be spending?

La Belle Soeur sends along this article:

Bush Plans $1.5 Billion Drive for Promotion of Marriage
By ROBERT PEAR and DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK

The initiative comes at a time when the administration is under pressure from conservatives eager to see the government defend traditional marriage.

...Wade F. Horn, the assistant secretary of health and human services for children and families, said: "Marriage programs do work. On average, children raised by their own parents in healthy, stable married families enjoy better physical and mental health and are less likely to be poor."

And La Belle asks: "How about just providing a goddam JOB for their parents????????"

Well, sis, you don't have to notice the obvious if you're waving a flag, sweetie.

WTF? How can you turn something like marriage into a tax-funded project? Oh, never mind. Marriage was always ever about getting property into certain chosen hands. You don't think so? Some day when I have time....

Check this out:

Administration officials say they are planning an extensive election-year initiative to promote marriage, especially among low-income couples, and they are weighing whether President Bush should promote the plan next week in his State of the Union address.

Especially among low-income couples?

For months, administration officials have worked with conservative groups on the proposal, which would provide at least $1.5 billion for training to help couples develop interpersonal skills that sustain "healthy marriages."

Well, damn. They don't have to go very far to find some not-so-low income couples who could benefit from that. Neil Bush comes to mind rather immediately.

And, I think we're going to need to define "healthy" marriage.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
