What about al-Douri?

You keep asking. I keep trying to answer.

Okay, you don't ask. But I do. And so....

Recall if you will that back in December, there was a report that was plastered over all of Murdoch's Australian papers that al-Douri, number two bogeyman in Saddam's coterie of evil, had surrendered. But, strangely enough, no other mention was made of it anywhere that I could find on the web. Certainly the American press continued - and continues to this day - to indicate that we are still searching for the old baddie.

And you will recall that I said we had arrested his wife and daughter, and that I figured he may well have surrendered, due to that fact, coupled with the fact of his poor health - he is claimed to be dying of leukemia and needs treatment - where's he going to get that on the run?

Well, today, here's a bit from an Arab source, al-Khaleej quoted at The Daily Star:

The daily quoted a top Iraqi official as saying that the American forces in Iraq have captured former Iraqi Vice-President Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, who tops the US list of the most-wanted former Iraqi officials.

The paper said that Ibrahim al-Jaafari, a member of the interim Iraqi Governing Council, said Douri was in US custody, but that the US did not want to disclose his arrest "until it confirms some secret information it attained during the questioning" of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Sounds about right.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.

Update February 1: Jaafari says that he didn't say that.
