Morocco decrees women are people

In a country where men have had the incredible advantage and polygamy is legal, a new family code has just been adopted changing the balance. The code "raises the age at which girls can legally marry from 15 to 18 and gives wives 'joint responsibility' with their husbands in family matters." Women are permitted to sign pre-nuptial agreements that forbid the husband from taking other wives. Women will now be permitted to share in property acquired during marriage if there is a divorce, and to have custody of children. It also gives children born out of wedlock the right to trace their fathers.

Critics have countered that while this may deter men from too readily divorcing their spouses, it will also act to discourage potential husbands from marrying.

So what's the problem?
