Resolution of Inquiry

Congress has many techniques for obtaining documents from the executive branch, including simple requests, committee investigations, subpoenas, and holding executive officials in contempt. One procedure, used only in the House of Representatives, is the resolution of inquiry, which "is a simple resolution making a direct request or demand of the President or the head of an executive department to furnish the House of Representatives with specific factual information in the possession of the executive branch".

...January 21, 2004 - Washington, DC– Rep. Rush Holt and a group of House Members today introduced a resolution of inquiry that requests the President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, and the Attorney General to transmit to the House of Representatives not later than 14 days after passage all documents in the possession of the President and those officials relating to the disclosure of the identity of Valerie Plame.

Yeah well, fat chance, but, you go Holt.

....do what you want....you will anyway.

I wonder what repercussions the "outing" actually has had. I wonder if Plame had any agents in the field that have paid the price for the White House's dirty politics. And I wonder what effect it has had on our intelligence program. Some day, I suppose, someone will write a book. And future generations can be appalled, but too late to take any action. We'll be well into some other dirty dealings by then.
