US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is considering provoking a military confrontation with Syria by attacking Hizbullah bases near the Syrian border in Lebanon, according to the authoritative London-based Jane's Intelligence Digest. article
We have taken some serious hits in Lebanon already in the not-too-distant-past. It just happens that I'm currently reading See No Evil, an accounting of CIA operations in that area by the officer in charge shortly after the U.S. embassy in Beirut was bombed. As I understand it, those hits were at least partially responsible for our lack of intelligence information in the Middle East that might have prevented the 9/11 terrorist attack, since we essentially pulled every American operation out of the area.
Maybe Avenging Angel Bush has taken upon himself some retaliating in Lebanon, too. (Atrios calls the Iraq invasion "Operation Inigo Montoya." I love that. Read Princess Bride. No, don't watch the movie. Read the book.)
I don't know...I don't think this is a great idea. I'm afraid we are relying too heavily on our (and I include Israel in that pronoun) nuclear military might as a back-up.
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
Oh, yeah, the title: P2OG
