Gas prices

A number of OPEC countries are willing to increase the market supply of crude - by "request" from the U.S. no doubt - but Venezuela's Hugo Chavez thinks it would be wiser to sit down and discuss why the price has gone so high.

Gee. Imagine that. Look at the cause.

It's so crazy, it just might work.

But not if the U.S. has anything to say about it - and we do. Hugo says our little fiasco in Iraq is the problem.

"In my opinion, it would be a very bad message for OPEC to give into pressures and then increase production. No, OPEC should say to the big consumers let's sit down at the table and let's talk about the causes of the increase in prices," Chavez told Reuters in an interview late Monday.

"If we increased production, we would be committing a grave error like giving a sick person the wrong medicine," he said.
