[Syrian President Bashar al-Assad] and Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer reacted sharply on Tuesday night to US comments that Washington was not prepared to step in to stop Iraqis taking the potentially divisive step of establishing Kurdish autonomy in the new Iraq.
Weren't they aware of the Saddam exchange for Kurdish autonomy deal?
"Syria used to hold the Kurdish card against Turkey... But since then international developments have led both Turkey and Syria to become frightened by the establishment of a Kurdish state," commentator Mehmet Ali Birand wrote in Wednesday's Turkish Daily News.
"The countries are now cooperating to avoid this by formulating joint policies. Turkey, for the first time ever, seems to have found an ally." article
Great ally for Turkey. And a good reason to add them to the bomb-the-crap-out-of-that-country list. Who would have ever thought perpetual war could be made so easy?
And what a nice little bonus for our negotiations with the Kurds. Sure, we'll support your autonomy if you give us Saddam. But we can't promise anything from your neighbors. In fact, let them engage you in war, we'll step in - eventually. Suckers.
Yeah, yeah. I have no idea what I'm talking about. So what? Neither do half the "pundits". Neither does the Churl in Chief. And people take his word for gospel.
...but, hey...do what you want....you will anyway...
