Libya, weapons, and Hussein

Well, I can't find it now, so maybe I dreamed that I posted that I wondered what deals the CIA might be making with Hussein even now, since they've obviously been making them with him for years.

I did find my post where I suggested markers were being called in.

And I've made several posts wondering just what the heck was up with the pre-war negotiations to get Libya to take Hussein in exile. Why would the U.S. have been brokering a deal like that if they weren't pretty certain they could produce Hussein? (Of course they seemed to be pretty certain the war would be a "cakewalk", too, so maybe certainty's not really indicative of anything.) And I've been asking for a while now what was up with that deal about the North Korean arms making their way to Libya. I even sent emails to some of the bloggers/reporters whose work I respect asking for any insights, but of those who did respond, nobody seemed to know anything.

But, ye old bulldog just cannot let go of this one, and so, when articles on the subject turn up, I will be posting.

Like this:

U.S. Released Missiles To Libya As Part of Saddam Exile Bid

January 13, 2004: (Geostrategy-direct)

The United States permitted North Korea to ship Scud C medium-range missiles to Libya so as not to disrupt an offer for exile from Moammar Khaddafy to Saddam Hussein. According to European intelligence sources, the Bush administration in early 2003 ordered a North Korean shipment of 15 Scud B and C missiles be released for delivery to Libya.

Read it here.

Now see, isn't that just a bit, oh, I don't know....American of our government? Sanction Libya. Put Libya on the evil list, along with Saddam. Negotiate to let Libya receive a weapons shipment if they will also receive Hussein in exile. And then, "capture" Saddam and tell Libya that we, by God, are getting a little tired of waiting on them to disarm.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
