US hack Noriega had preened himself before the White House correspondents corp saying that he was "disappointed" that Argentinean officials failed to meet dissidents during a visit to Havana ...
[Argentine President Nestor] Kirchner underlined the fact stating that Argentina is still an independent nation and that it is "no longer a carpet to trample on." Let's hope he'll put it just as forcefully to Bush 2 when they meet next Tuesday, as (according to the White House) the US President "wants to have a clearer picture on Argentina's position toward Cuba."
Just how much clearer can "Butt out of Argentina's domestic affairs" can you get?
Like it or not in Washington D.C., Argentina has restored full diplomatic ties with Cuba and Argentinean Foreign Minister, Rafael Bielsa met Castro in Havana, refusing to meet internal dissidents. Bielsa rightly considers internal dissidence to be a matter for Cuba's sovereignty to decide ... but Washington persists in looking under the bed for partisans in the UN Human Rights Committee to vote against Cuba, while Argentina moves from supporting US hegemony to abstention.
The United States had thought it could buy Argentinean subservience when it helped restructure the South American nation's debt with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) but most observers willingly admit that the US was basically protecting its own big business interests with scant regard for Argentineans.
On the verge of Latin American paranoia, the United States is throwing a wobbly since Kirchner has established closer ties also with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and they see a growing regional alliance emerging with Brazil against the USA free-market policies.
Kirchner is also "concerned" over US red-necks plotting of a rebellion that ousted Bolivian President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada. Clearly they see current US aggression in the southern hemisphere as a Bush 2 necessity if he thinks he stands any chance of winning a second term in office, with or without the corrupt assistance of brother Jeb in Florida. article
