I'm watching the MoveOn.org special right now. MoveOn's Eli Parisser has just announced that MoveOn has been given the opportunity to air the winning Bush in 30 Seconds ad during the Superbowl! He says it's the first time a political ad will ever have appeared during a Superbowl show.
Holy crap. That's a big deal. I might just watch the Superbowl to see that.
Surely the Repukes will be scramblling now to get one of theirs on as well.
Anyway, here are the 15 finalists, and I'll update this post when the winner is announced.
The winning ad is slated to be shown coincidentally with Bush's State of the Union address. But a whole hell of a lot more people are going to be watching the Superbowl. And for all those people who figured Paul O'Neill's 60 Minutes spot would be lost in favor of whatever football game it was that was playing at the same time - well, it looks like football will be giving back.
Can I get a witness!
And, if you're online right now, catch the MoveOn special right now, http://web1.media.globix.net/client/molemedia/moveon_011203.ram. I am having some interrruptions from time to time - getting cut off from the server. I don't know if that's my poor connection, but I suspect it is from a heavy load on their server. (Or - conspiracy explanation: Bush hackers.)
The show is actually starting to make me feel just ever so slightly hopeful. Eli Parisser's grin when he says, "Together, I know we can take our country back!" is infectious.
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
Update 9:50 pm: Ooops. I lost my connection and couldn't get it back. Appears the show is over, and I didn't see who won.
I did see Al Franken introduce the nominees in the funniest ad categories. He led off his bit by saying he was second choice - that Paul O'Neill was the original choice, but he'd been murdered this morning. Gee. I hope that stays a joke.
I'll let you know who won as soon as I find out.
