Meanwhile, at KDFX, Texoma, TX, they may not know how to spell where Bush went. (I got this link from Google's news service. I don't know how Google chooses the sources for its News page articles - they seem to rotate amongst well-known and rather obscure ones.)
BUSH IN FIRST DAY OF BRITTISH VISIT
Wednesday, November 19, 2003
President Bush is in Britain for his first full day of his state visit.
...Anti Bush and anti war feelings are running deep, but polls show a majority of Brits welcome the President, including AIDS activists.
The Presidential visit is under unprecedented security. Hundreds of secret service agents are on high alert, along with 14,000 British police officers, triple the usual number. There is intelligence indicating al Qaeda may be planning an attack unrelated to Mr. Bush`s visit.
Triple the usual number for what, I'm not sure. But that intelligence is pretty much usual.
...Mr. Bush is in England to pay back the Prime Minister for his the support in the war.
There are a number of technical and grammatical faux pas in the article, but I'm trying to concentrate on the content - and even though that is probably one of the reasons Bush is in England, it's interesting that it is being reported simply as the reason. Especially since the invitation to come to England was made in June 2002.
The article ends ceremoniously:
Another chapter in a historical alliance shared between two countries.
And from a Reuters article:
Banners proclaimed the United States was the "excess of evil" and declared Bush was "one piece of garbage we are prepared to dismantle here" -- a reference to the so-called "ghost fleet" of U.S. ships on its way to Britain for scrapping.
Airline worker Dawn Totten, 50, said she had flown from her home in the United States to join the protest. "I came all the way from San Francisco because demonstrations go unrecognised and unreported there."
Asked if she had a message for Bush, she said: "I'd like to tell him to stay here."
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
