At 8:30 pm London time, the following report was filed with IndyMedia:
There is a street party now on Hyde Park Corner but police have moved people onto the pavement and have cordoned them under "Section 52". Legal observers say there is no such law as "Section 52" .
The protesters were setting fire to miniature cardboard tanks, an effigy of Bush, American flags, and, according to one witness, British passports (?) in Trafalgar. Perhaps those passports have something to do with what the Dane was telling me the other night.
Powell was forced to drop out of an award ceremony at the last minute where he would have been presented a medal of honour. It's not clear whether that was for security reasons.
The Angel of The North symbolicly fired out the message - BUSH OUT - tonight as the north east prepares to give bush a roasting in Sedgefield tomorrow. article
Some photos of the day are here.
There were statue topplings in Swindon and Cambridge, as well as in London.
