Total corruption

A great comment from a reader at the Whiskey Bar, in response to Billmon's post about the behavior of Congress on the Medicare bill:

Look, as far as I can see, the simple fact is that just about all Republicans and most Democrats have their own interest groups they need to stroke. The way politics works in the US is that, beholden to the need to raise money, these people will support massive debt, will support illegal wars, will support a bill allowing George Bush to rape virgins on Main Street - as long as they think there will eventually be a quid pro quo for the interests *they* represent.

And it's not going to change, because the only people in a position to change the system are those most embedded in it. Get used to the stink of corruption, the sight of hypocritical whores in suits, to the sound your teeth make grinding as your Republic slowly slides into decay - because that's the way it will be forever and ever, amen.
