From Italy, Putin says that he is not interested in renationalizing the oil company, even if he objected to privatization, because he fears it would "lead to serious negative consequences for the economy". He claims that the arrest of Khodorkovsky was merely a legal matter, comparing the situation to that of U.S. prosecution of Enron.
One small difference - Ken Lay isn't in jail.
Meanwhile, Yukos has replaced Khodorkovsky with a Russian who spent 20 years in the U.S., assisted by two Americans. Perhaps they will tread carefully. article
