Petition for American Values

Right now, Republicans are engaged in a 30-hour publicity stunt on the Senate floor to try and politicize the courts and force Democrats to rubber-stamp Bush's extremist nominees.

Damn, I hate getting caught in partisan crapola. Dems are now trying to take the "family values" concept for their own and capitalize on it. They've also stolen the Repugs' "All American - not a traitor" byline and put the two together to come up with "American Values".

Whatever.

What I do feel strongly about is keeping more Scalias off the Supreme Court. Here's a link to a site where, according to the e-mail I just got,

We'll deliver your comments to Capitol Hill leaders so they know you support their fight for American values and their fight to prevent our courts from being packed with right-wing judges.

Like they give a rat's patootie what you or I support.

Anyway, this is the petition you'll "sign" if you go to this site.

Dear Democratic Leaders:

The United States Supreme Court is the backbone that upholds American values.

These cherished American values are at risk if one or more Supreme Court Justices retire this summer. Civil rights, a woman's right to choose, environmental protections, public education, workers' rights, and much more are threatened by a right-wing court.

President Bush has already built a record of nominating extremist, ultra-conservative judges to the federal bench.

I stand with and support Democratic leaders in the fight to oppose ultra-conservative nominees to the nation's highest court.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
