It looks like Sharon is trying to use the flaming hammer of anti-semitism in yet another case...the prosecution of the Russian oil tycoon. It couldn't possibly be that there really was some illegal business dealing, as Putin claims.
But apparently, Putin is not particularly threatened by Sharon's shenanigans. Al-Jazeera reported yesterday that he "rebuffed" Sharon's requests to abandon the peace road map - requests which Sharon personally brought to Russia. He also wanted Putin to put Hizb'Allah and some Palestinian groups on its list of terrorist organizations, but Putin is reported as "sticking to a line that only 'terror' organisations that operate in Russia would be recognised as such by Moscow."
I wonder if Joe Vialls' analysis is correct that, militarily, Israel is in no position to bully Russia.
