Black Hawks down

Two US helicopters have crashed in a civilian area in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

American soldiers have sealed off the area, witnesses said.

A US military spokesman has confirmed that two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters had come down in northern Iraq and that a rapid reaction force was securing the area and investigating. article

I never heard whether that last one that went down was actually shot down or there was some malfunction or something. Whatever happened, it caused a big retaliatory strike.

And I wonder what the chopper casualty is since the war started and "since the president declared the end of major combat operations in May".

I bet we're keeping good track of that.
