Meanwhile in Iraq

The Iraqi government has sacked 1,300 police and soldiers for their lack of support for the government's attempt to stomp down Basra. Which points up quite nicely the impossibility of there ever being an Iraqi police force or army that will permit the U.S. to "stand down" and let them "stand up" for themselves.

Also, in a fine display of precision bombing this weekend, the US targeted two guys making a roadside bomb with two missiles, one of which took out a U.S. Humvee.

Rumsfeld: "Stuff happens."

Cheney: "So?

NPR reported that they also took out some civilians but that the two targeted guys got away. Reuters is reporting that the intended men were also killed. I have found Reuters to be less than unbiased and truthful in the past, but I'm not all that confident in NPR either. But they both agree a Humvee went down in flames. Reuters put that bit of information at the bottom of a somewhat lengthy article about the sacking of the police/soldiers and under the separate heading Sadr City Calm.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
