Where IS That Head?

Mr. A was telling me a story this morning about giving testimony at a trial a few years ago in a case involving two frequent patrons at the library here in Galveston. As the story progressed, the names didn't ring a bell, but the case facts sure did: a billionaire cross-dressing murderer and a missing head. I'd blogged about it when the amazing verdict was announced in 2003.

I hadn't thought about that case since back then. When I moved down here, right before the 2006 elections, I met the judge who presided over it (but I was unaware of that fact), Susan Criss. She's something of an interesting character herself. It appears that she has just been approached about a seat on the Texas Supreme Court.

If Criss were to run for the state’s high court, a victory for her could mark at least a slight political sea change in Galveston County. Of the six state district court judges in the county, four are Democrats, including Criss. County Probate Judge Gladys Burwell is also a Democrat, as are all three county-court-at-law judges.

However, Criss vacating her position as judge of the 212th would mean Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican, would choose someone to become judge until the next regularly scheduled election in 2010. That appointee would likely be a fellow Republican.

I'm sorry, but down here in Galveston, we at least have some non-righteous Bush supporting Republicans, unlike the rest of Texas. We don't need any more Republicans in high places.

But really, what I want to know is what happened to Robert Durst, the billionaire (admitted and yet aquitted) murderer. His attorney (described in one article as "eccentric and brilliant") is now defending a banker charged with conspiring with Enron's Andrew Fastow. But where is Durst? There were two bodies in his wake (one dead friend, one missing wife) before he chopped up Morris Black in Galveston. Have there been any since?

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.

  1. To think that democrats are any better in providing justice is inacurate. I spent over 3 years wating for a trial that never happened. The whole thing is very odd. www.CrimeInGalveston.com, www.WeNeedJustice.us, www.EvadingProsecution.com.

  2. i don't know that i ever thought democrats were better at providing justice. but i still don't want any more republicans in high positions. i don't particularly want democrats, either, but giving a nod to individual cases, in general, to me they're the lesser of two evils. but not by much.

thanks for reading. thanks for commenting.
