Obama as Jesus?

Fox News would have us believe that the artist who created this piece is "showing Senator Barack Obama as Jesus Christ."

It's titled "Blessing", and it has Obama wearing robes. I think the halo thing is a little over the top for any human (of course I think it's over the top to portray one over the head of Jesus himself). But, it's no big deal. I understand it to mean that the artist sees the subject as above the unenlightened masses, or maybe as a shining example to be emulated. Or, given the title of the sculpture, sees Obama hopefully in the role of moral leader. Even those assumptions are simply my personal interpretations of the work and don't necessarily reflect the artist's intentions. There are some comments by the sculptor in the Fox News video you can watch on this link.

Other saints and holy men and women have traditionally been depicted with robes and halos. Had the artist wanted to depict Obama as Jesus, he would have put him on a cross, no?

A Fox "reporter" goes to the museum where the piece is on display, and the video commentary by a thin white blonde (same "reporter" or just the spokesmodel?) is more out of line than their insistence the piece is showing Obama as Jesus...

"Aside from Barack being compared to Jesus, some may be offended by the suggestion that Christ is black." And then, with a little drop in voice, almost secretive..."or that the United States could have a black president." (How does that fit into the Barack as Jesus theme? How?)

Now, let's set aside for a moment that Christ, being a Middle Easterner, certainly wasn't Caucasian, and just concentrate on the incitement in that statement that "some" may be offended at Obama being shown as Christ (and at the possibility of a black president). That, coupled with the admission immediately following...."but they don't seem to be at the exhibit this night." So why bring it up at all? In fact, all the interviews the Fox "reporter" got at the exhibit were positive.

Well, if they can't find controversy, Fox will provide it themselves. And supply their own artwork to go with it.

I don't recall, but perhaps Fox told us the following photos were showing Bush as Jesus Christ, too. (Maybe that's where they got their idea that a comparison to Jesus is related to being president?)

How about this one?

Maybe little girls should quit wearing those wire halos over their heads when they play angels in their school pageants. 'Cause we know darned well that a female couldn't be a Jesus.

Or a president, for that matter.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.

P.S. If you want some Bush/Jesus art, check this out.
