Haiti

Human rights groups urged the US-led peacekeepers in Haiti to immediately disarm rebel and militia groups and arrest key rebel leaders as concerns rose that democracy activists and government officials are in growing danger from former soldiers -- some of whose commanders are convicted murderers -- who have filled the power vacuum in Port-au-Prince.

..."Unless the US acts forcefully to stop them, they are going to be killing democracy supporters," said Brian E. Concannon Jr., an attorney who represented victims of the 1994 massacre. "They have been killing people already. They killed 5,000 people last time they were in charge."

But it appeared yesterday that the foreign troops were loath to get directly involved. A statement from France's Foreign Ministry said, "The priority is the establishment of an interim national unity government. It is up to the Haitian parties to work in that direction."

In other words. We consent to the killings. Same as we consented to the rebel activity leading up to the ouster of Aristide, or we would have sent in troops to stop that, as well.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.

(I am going to start a webpage on Haiti, similar to the one I have on Venezuela. And keep track of the posts, as a reference document. Those should be up soon.)
