"Unleashing the dogs"

As Clarke said they would. The White House is in high rebuttal mode. Rebutting. What else can you do with a house full of butts?

White House Rolls Out Big Guns to Refute Clarke - GOP USA
White House Rebuts Former Adviser's 9/11 Claims - Fox News
White House attacks terror expert - The Age
Dick Clarke's Grandstand - National Review Online - National Review Online

And look at the National Review Online editorial comment in another article:

The new book by former counterterrorism official Richard Clarke is only the latest attempt by former Clinton administration officials to suggest that the September 11 terrorist attacks might have been prevented if only the new Bush White House had followed the advice of the outgoing administration. Former Clinton aides were playing the same game in August 2002, as the first anniversary of the 9/11 attacks approached, when Time magazine published a major article blaming Bush officials for not following the Clinton path on terrorism.

Whenever you see it portrayed in that light, realize you're dealing with a Bush apologist still trying to frame everything in terms of Clinton bad - Bush good. Clarke served in his position under presidents Reagan and Bush I before Clinton and Bush II. He can hardly be called a former Clinton official as a dismissal. He served under three Republicans - and only one Democrat. Yes, I know, Clinton was soooooooo horrible, that he makes up for three Republicans.

Here's how the San Jose Mercury News looks at it:

Delusional aides fail to see Bush's genius

Pity poor George Bush. For some reason, he has been beset by delusional aides who, once they leave the White House, write books containing lies, exaggerations and -- this is the lowest blow of all -- do not take into account the president's genius and all-around wisdom.

...As with former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill, another fool who had somehow risen to become chairman of Alcoa, Clarke's account of his more than two years in the Bush White House was immediately denounced by a host of administration aides, some of whom -- and this is just the sheerest of coincidences -- had once assured us that Iraq was armed to the teeth with nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.

This Scotsman article appears to indicate that the Senate panel investigating 9/11 will blame both Clinton and Bush. Which, if true, will certainly let Bush off lightly, and confirm the commission's worthlessness. Unless it's willing to throw them both in the pokey.

Testimony of the top officials, except Miss Thang, of course, begins today. Rumsfiend and Colon Bowel will be testifying - those paragons of veracity.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.

Update 4:30 pm: The preliminary report.
