O'Neill

Plus, as he told Suskind, "I'm an old guy, and I'm rich. And there's nothing they can do to hurt me."  article

Probably not a wise challenge to make when dealing with incredibly mean and vindictive people.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.

Anyway, I'm having another little problem...

Weeks after Bush had assured O'Neill that rumored staff changes in the economic team did not mean his job was in peril, Cheney called. "Paul, the President has decided to make some changes in the economic team. And you're part of the change," he told O'Neill. The bloodless way he was cut loose by his old chum shocked O'Neill, Suskind writes, but what came after was even more shocking. Cheney asked him to announce that it was O'Neill's decision to leave Washington to return to private life. O'Neill refused, saying "I'm too old to begin telling lies now."

If that Time quote is true, then what about this?

Is everybody blowing smoke?

Yeah, I suppose so.

Update 6:30 pm: I just watched the 60 Minutes program with O'Neill. Somewhere earlier today on the net I read that O'Neill claimed he would be stunned if the White House attacked him for what he revealed in the book. Actually, that was Leslie Stahl's word as aired on the program. Editing makes it hard to get a straight picture, but O'Neill did act surprised that Stahl thought his portrayal of the Oaf of Office was disparaging. When she suggested that he might expect to be attacked for it, he said he couldn't imagine that he would be attacked for telling the truth. Huh? Has O'Neill been out of the country, away from all media since Joseph Wilson told the truth about yellowcake? Or, I guess technically it wasn't Wilson they attacked, was it?

Okay, Paul. Good luck, buddy.

And thanks. Better late than never.
