What in the world does Chalabi have on whom?

Josh Marshall has even more incredible information on Ahmed Chalabi, following a story in Newsweek. I understand they turned over a bunch of Saddam's records to Chalabi, which could have who knows what information in them, but there had to be something before that to get Chalabi in the position to negotiate such a fine deal in the first place.

He's fed our intelligence agencies false information and then thumbed his nose at us. He's got custody of Saddam's records. And now they're telling us that he not only was probably the one who tipped off Saddam's people that the CIA was attempting a coup on him in '96, but that he's passing on sensitive information about our security operations in Iraq to the Iranians? And we're still paying him $340,000 a month!

WTF?!? What am I missing? Who's in his pocket and why?
