Haitian appointed Prime Minister Gerard Latortue announced Monday he temporarily suspended his country's membership in the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) and withdrew Haiti's ambassador from Jamaica, reports from Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince stated.
The announcement was issued after Haiti's former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide arrived in Jamaica from exile in the Central African Republic. Latortue said he would reconsider Haiti's relations with CARICOM because the bloc had voiced support to Aristide's presidency. |
