Treat!

It has just come to my attention that Halloween falls on a Sunday this year. Great fun. Great fun.

When did all this business about Halloween being a Satanic celebration begin anyway? I was raised in a fundamentalist Christian home and church, and I don't ever remember hearing anything like that as a kid. Halloween was a great time had by all back in Blackwater, Missouri, in the 50s. Except when the homemade cookies crumbled in the bottom of your bag. Loved those popcorn balls that Marjorie Root made, though. Hers were the best.

Maybe the holiday became Satanic around the time crazy SOBs started lacing candy with drugs and putting razor blades in apples. Wanna bet those sick fucks were raised in strict Christian homes?

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.

  1. Thanks for the reminder of Marjorie's popcorn balls...they were the best ever!

And remember how everyone always tried to disguise themselves so no one would guess who we were? A small town memory that's a good one!

  2. ha! what i remember is sweltering inside a costume in foyers where grandma and grandpa had to be called in for help in guessing who the costumed kids were, and wanting to just yank off the mask and tell them. and i remember our brother and a friend changing costumes after going to every house in town, emptying their candy bags, and going back to the houses where people DIDN'T make them come in to guess who they were. great times.
