We need a Tosh.0-like taking apart by segments of this offering.
Republicans on Wednesday urged President Barack Obama to pick a more business-friendly successor to economic adviser Larry Summers, a move that would signal a shift to the center.
More business-friendly? If we get any more business-friendly, we’re going to all have to incorporate just to keep our heads above water.
Shift to the center? I don’t think so. The shift is all to the right, and since we are already right of center, more shift in the same direction is not going to get us closer to the center – but further from it. But, if I were betting, that’s exactly where I’d put my money. Mr. Obama has rarely done anything but cave to the opposing party since he’s been in office.
Summers, a former Treasury secretary, had long planned to stay at the White House for only a short period of time and is leaving to return to his teaching job at Harvard University.
Speaking of rewriting history. I have a feeling that the “long” planning to stay for only a short while is a relative concept. Since about the time Obama’s political capital pocket burst a seam, would be my guess. At least this one isn’t saying he needs to spend more time with the family.
Also key to the direction of economic policy is the chief of staff, and Obama may have to find a replacement for that role too. Rahm Emanuel is strongly considering stepping down to run for mayor of Chicago.
Please do. (Sorry, Chicago, but better you than the whole country.)
Concern over the budget deficit, estimated to hit $1.47 trillion this year, has weighed on Democrats in the congressional campaigns.
And they’re idiots for not flashing this graph 24/7.
....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
