Travel Break

Galveston, Texas

I took the harbor tour again today.

If you ever get to Galveston and want to take a tour of Galveston Bay harbor, there are two regular guided tours leaving from Pier 21. I've taken them both, and I recommend the Galveston Historical Foundation tour (at the Elissa museum) aboard the Seagull II. It's a dollar cheaper ($9 adult) than the other company, has a bigger boat (with an upper deck) - even though neither boat is very big - and the Seagull's captain, Paris Price, gives you infinitely more and better information than the guy who drives the other boat. The other boat's claim to fame is that it's the only "dolphin safe" tour boat in the harbor. That's because it has very loud, stinky jet engines instead of propellers. But, as Captain Price will tell you, the bottlenose dolphins in the harbor are very smart and very fast. Too fast and too smart to get caught in boat propellers. Smart enough to untie the knots in the fish boat nets as they follow you out and release your catch.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
