Go Ahead and Swear

The Appeals Court for the Second Circuit in New York ruled against the FCC's ban on "fleeting expletives" on TV and radio. Because, they said, if Bush and Cheney can blurt out obscenities, they can't make laws that prohibit other people from doing the same.

Excellent.

Maybe we'll eventually get rid of those TV edited versions of movies where the really bad evil terrorist shouts, "Go to heck!" before he riddles the hero's wife and child with bullets, and the hero screams "Gosh darn you!"

But what stands out in this ruling to me is the definition of obscenity we are laboring under. It would appear that it's any word that implies "sexual or excretory acts". No wonder we have so many cases of sexual abuses amongst lawmakers in this country. They view having sex to be on the same level as taking a dump and pissing.
