Comparing ourselves with Saddam

While I think comparing our actions in Iraq with Saddam's is setting the bar pretty damned low, perhaps we need to actually rethink that comparison after all.

We have been shown proof now that we have committed all manner of atrocities in Iraq, from carpet bombing of innocent civilians to night-time raids on homes to humiliating and degrading treatment of innocent people to torture and murder in prisons.

Let's compare Saddam's treatment of early POWs:

When Saddam Hussein’s resistance army captured more than a dozen American invaders during the early weeks of the war, none of the prisoners, after they regained their freedom, spoke to the media or their superiors that they had been maltreated by their Iraqi captors.

The only report we ever got of inhumane treatment of our captured soldiers was the phony story of Jessica Lynch. And no proof was ever offered that she was treated in any manner except with great care and concern. The sodomizing story is highly suspect, and even if medical evidence exists, it doesn't mean it was the Iraqis who performed the act. (Don't forget those reports of her topless photos and her fun-loving ways with the soldiers before her capture.)

So, tell me again, who are the evil-doers here?
