Tucker Carlson - America's blue collar hero

Bob posts this quote in the Toronto Star about women's rights in Afghanistan:

"Please, my dear brothers, let your wives and sisters go to the voter registration process," [Afghan President Hamid] Karzai told a gathering to mark International Women's Day. "Later, you can control who she votes for, but please, let her go."

Not a whole lot different from the views of many American men, from what I see. They usually just don't make it so public. (Except in fundamentalist churches.) Once in a while they do.

This was reported in the Progress Report as a conservative culturally insensitive remark. I think it goes a tad beyond culturally insensitive.

The NY Post reports, if he had to spend his life as a woman, "the bow-tied conservative of CNN's 'Crossfire'" Tucker Carlson told Elle magazine it would as Elizabeth Birch, "formerly of the Human Rights Campaign because you'd be presiding over an organization of thousands of lesbians, some of them quite good-looking." Plus, women are simple in their needs: "They want to be listened to, protected and amused. And they want to be spanked vigorously every once in a while." And, according to the open-minded Carlson, it's easy to trump them in a fight, too. "Most of the time you can beat a woman in an argument. But what do you win? Nothing. You get short-term pleasure followed by a lot of pain."

Maybe he was just trying to be funny.

Missed.

And while we're on the subject...

South Knox Bubba posts:

It's that time of year again...

Time to give the gals a break from all that cooking, cleaning, laundry, and birthin' babies so they can attend the 10th Annual Women Today Expo in Knoxville. Here are the particulars (free registration required):
Women Today Expo

WHEN: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 19-20; noon-5 p.m. Sunday, March 21

WHERE: Knoxville Convention Center

ADMISSION: Adult: $8; Youth: $6 (6-12); under 6 free. $2 discount with News Sentinel Advantage Card

Scrapbooking. Autographs from Yanni. Information on new beauty products. Makeovers. Massages. Information on everything from angina to zucchini, plus a chance to shop until you drop.

All in one place.

This years' News Sentinel Women Today Expo celebrates its 10th anniversary March 19-21, and is having its first show at the new Knoxville Convention Center. It will be the largest three-day show of its kind in Knoxville.
Largest. Three-day. Of its kind. In Knoxville. Wow, that's a lot of qualifiers. Sounds pretty exclusive though. Let's check out some of this year's excellent adventures for the girls of East Tennessee:
# "Hot Stone Therapy with Tommy Girl and Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Fragrances" presented by Annabeth Gibson

# "DIY’s Party Tips & Tricks" presented by DIY talent Jeanne Benedict

# "Cake Decorating" presented by Susie Davis, Susie’s Pretty Petals & Designs

# "Conquering Your Closet," presented by Mary Pankiewicz

# "Scrapbook Your Memories" presented by DIY talent Sandi Genovese
Sounds like they've covered everything the girls need to know to be better lookin', better cookin', and better organized so they'll have more time and energy for their wifely romantic duties. And smell better, too.

But it appears they must still be working on the schedule. I don't see "Pursuing your MBA" or "Small business startups for women and minorities sponsored by the SBA" or "Parenting: Talking with your teens about HIV and drugs".

Oh wait. Maybe all that stuff will be covered in the 30 minute Q&A with Yanni at 3:00 on Saturday the 20th.

OK, then.

And, last but not least, from Brian at Resonance:

Iraq's leaders have signed the interim constitution. Yes, it contains a quota, or the legal "aim" of a quota, whatever that means:
The National Assembly shall be elected in accordance with an electoral law and a political parties law. The electoral law shall aim to achieve the goal of having women constitute no less than one-quarter of the members of the National Assembly and of having fair representation for all communities in Iraq, including the Turcomans, ChaldoAssyrians, and others.

Chapter 4, Article 30 (c)
Interestingly, by my count our own U.S. Senate only has 14% females (and no African-Americans), which wouldn't cut it under this provision. Time for senatorial affirmative action.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
