Justice grinding slowly

Billmon discusses the latest in the Joseph Wilson/Valerie Plame case: Fitzgerald interrogates Tim Russert.

From all this, I think we can conclude the Republican campaign to mau mau Fitzgerald into dropping his investigation - in part by enlisting the GOP members of the Senate Intelligence Committee in yet another bid to slime Joe Wilson's reputation - has utterly failed. And from that, we can probably also infer that Fitzgerald and his men are reasonably certain a real crime has been committed. Federal prosecutors, even special ones, do not lightly go around subpoening media superstars. Someone - to use the old Southernism - appears to be in a whole heap of trouble. And the subpoenas themselves give us a pretty good idea who that somebody is.
