Exemption from war crimes

The U.S. has revised its proposal to exempt U.S. players in Iraq from war crimes charges, since it didn't get enough votes in the UN Security Council to pass. Actually, we've had that agreement in place all along, it's just that its time has run out and we want to extend it.

Apparently, however, we haven't given up trying and are revising the proposal to extend the privilege for one year only, as opposed to indefinitely. Isn't that great?

On Wednesday, the 15 council members discuss the issue again, with diplomats speculating the compromise may have softened the opposition enough to give the United States the minimum nine votes it needs for adoption.
