About 4,000 police officers and 2,000 soldiers more than one-third of the security forces in the Irish Republic were deployed to protect Bush. Weekend protests were expected in several European cities.

That wasn't overkill was it? More than a 1:1 ratio armed forces to protestors. Perhaps they were expecting a hell of a lot more? I wonder what that cost us. Surely Ireland wasn't willing to pick up the whole tab.
Jesus. Barbed wire barricades. Keeping their own citizens away from their own landmarks, because an idiot from another country has to appear.
