With 100 percent of the votes counted, official results show Gavin Newsom won 53 percent of the vote [for San Francisco mayor], compared to 47 for rival Matt Gonzalez, who was seeking to become the most prominent U.S. Green mayor.
Newsom, 36, outspent his rival by ten to one and won endorsements from Democratic heavyweights including former President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore in a traditional liberal Democratic town. article
