Stinking Piles

But there won’t be a debt default. Why? Because the GOP is getting more than they asked for in the first place. They started out asking way more than they wanted and expected – a time honored negotiating tactic. But Obama and the Dems gave them more than that, protesting for the public spectacle so we’d think they were going to deal for “the people.” That sort of surprised the GOP; they didn’t expect the Dems to be quite so cooperative, so they started upping the ante to see just exactly how far they could take it.

Reid will counter [the latest GOP plan] modeled on a plan first articulated by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). It's a cuts-only bill (no tax revenue) that Dems believe will score $2.7 trillion in savings. But it will likely rely on a projected "peace dividend" -- the expected drawdown of forces in Iraq and Afghanistan -- and Republicans have indicated in the past they don't support counting reduced war expenditures as savings.

Probably because they don’t see reduced war expenditures in the future. “Peace dividend” indeed. We ain’t never gonna see that again.

"In an effort to reach a bipartisan compromise, we are putting together a $2.7 trillion deficit reduction package that meets Republicans' two major criteria," Reid said. "[I]t will include enough spending cuts to meet or exceed the amount of a debt ceiling raise through the end of 2012, and it will not include revenues. We hope Speaker Boehner will abandon his 'my way or the highway' approach, and join us in forging a bipartisan compromise along these lines."

Absurd. Here, let’s give them everything they want. That’ll be bipartisan. That’ll be Speaker Boehner abandoning his 'my way or the highway' approach. Harry, by this point, nobody is stupid enough to buy that. If you get a “compromise along these lines” it’s you who has abandoned your way. It’s a complete and total capitulation to the GOP demand for all cuts and no taxes. Nice negotiating tactics. Impotent windbags. Or was that your "plan" all along? The Dems want the same thing as the Republicans, they just have to pretend to oppose for the sake of the viewing public.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
