Twister

"There's a certain spirit in the Midwest of our country — a pioneer spirit that still exists, and I'm confident this community will be rebuilt," Bush said. "To the extent that we can help, we will.

"The most important thing now, though, is for our citizens to ask for the good Lord to comfort those who hurt."

  Yahoo article

Yes, that is infinitely more important than food and shelter.

I was going to say that it looks like there is work in Kansas for arborists who have the flexibility to move around (Tom), but then I heard that even the bark has been stripped from the trees. Looks like a job for the local boys with chainsaws.

If I were in Greensburg, newly demolished, I might better place my faith in someone more reliable than Katrina Bush.

....but hey, you do what you want....you will anyway.

Update: My original title for this post was "Is He a Good Witch or a Bad Witch?" (from the Oz movie).

A YWA reader sent this comment in response to the post:

Okay then - was it the 'bad lord' who sent that twister? If the 'good lord' is in charge of nature (I think we were told he was in charge of everything, weren't we?) why would someone ask for comfort from the very entity who caused the DISCOMFORT?? Perhaps it falls under the 'I'm beating you for your own good' policy'.

Exactly.

Man created God in his own image. (Or vice versa if you prefer - either way, they're the same male ego distortion.) It's a test of your loyalty - and, more to the point, how much you can be abused and remain docile. And to do that, you have to believe the abuser loves you. The Stockholm syndrome writ large.

And P.S., Katrina took the opportunity to give his public statement of federal support on Sunday morning in front of a church. Still using religion as a backdrop whenever he can.
