Lynndie on trial

Bolinger said England was repeatedly disciplined for sneaking into the prison's fortified "hard site" to visit her boyfriend, Spc. Charles Graner Jr., who is also charged in the case and is the father of the child England is carrying.

"Her performance was not so good," Bolinger said. "She was sneaking out in the middle of the night, going to the hard site."

Bolinger said England also was disciplined after being caught in bed several times with Graner beginning in July 2003. He said authorities tried several different punishments to keep her away from Graner and his part of the prison, including restricting her to her quarters and requiring that she be escorted any time she left the unit's headquarters building.

Excuse me, but I thought this was the Army. And a combat zone. What's this with trying to discipline a soldier and not being able to? Escorted every time she left the building? Is this kindergarten or military service? I don't get it. No wonder things aren't going so well. A real crack military.

England's case is going to be that she only did what she was ordered to do. Somehow I don't think she's going to get very far with that.

Investigator Paul Arthur testified Monday that when he interviewed England about the photos three months before they became public, she told him they were taken while "they were joking around, having some fun, during the night shift."

Arthur said he believed the reservists were responding to the stress of being in a war zone, "kind of venting their frustration."

But when asked if that assessment applied to England, Arthur replied: "She never mentioned that she was frustrated. She said it was more for fun."

England's defense attorney says the government won't be able to lay the blame onto his client and "a few bad apples" because there was systematic abuse also at other detention centers. Well and true, but I don't know how that's going to save his client's sorry ass. It could be interesting though if the government tries to use the case to avoid a complete investigation into the tortures.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
