We’re friends of those people, and since there are elections in November, if (George W.) Bush is re-elected, we hope that his advisers reflect, because we don’t understand why a country such as that, an associate and strategic ally, has been subject to pressure that isn’t convenient for us or them.”

Either he knows something I don't know about John Kerry, whose stance on Venezuela is as outrageous as the current administration's stance, or he's just taking the opportunity to bash Bush, something he seems to take great pleasure in doing on a regular basis.
Easy target.
