Presidential Auction 2004

The value of Edwards? You figure it out. Digby likes him. Digby, among other "leftist" bloggers I read daily and respect, is still blinded by the right, like many of them. They push that Democrat ticket and convince themselves that their guys are actually leftist, if not exactly progressive. The right has simply become so intense and so far right, that the mainstream left hasn't been able to notice that they're now the right. Democrats are rightwing. Republicans are fascists. There is no potent liberal representation in America any more. In fact, when used in anything other than self-delusion, the word is now simply either used as an expletive, or co-opted by free market ultraconservatives into the term neo-liberal, which gives it an altogether different meaning.

Oh well.

Here's another view of Edwards from Rahul at Empire Notes:

[H]e voted for the Patriot Act, for the Iraq war, and then last fall was in favor of the $66 billion for military spending but against the $18 billion for reconstruction.

...Under the Same Sun has a great excerpt from Edwards' speech in favor of the Iraq resolution, in which he says,
Saddam Hussein's regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein has sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal.

Do you think we could refer to this by that ugly little three-letter word -- lie?

You think?

This country is in serious denial about who we are.

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
