A Voice Crying in the Wilderness

The Super PAC Priorities USA, which was founded by former Obama White House aides to collect and spend the unlimited corporate funds allowed under the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, and other Democratic Super PACs are nothing short of a disaster for the party, [former US Senator Russ] Feingold said.

"It's dancing [with] the devil," he told hundreds of liberal activists gathered at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Wait, wait…back up. I thought Mr Big was going to raise $5 a plate money from individuals just like last time. What’s this about corporate funds?

Republicans have used the new rules to pump millions in untraceable funds into elections. President Obama has attacked the ruling, and Democrats have sought to make it a campaign issue. At the same time, Priorities USA seeks to level the financial playing field by engaging in the same sort of anonymous unlimited spending the Democrats publicly deride.

Why doesn’t that surprise me?

Too few Russ Feingolds, too many Barack Obamas.

"We'll gut our message!" he exclaimed. "I don't just think it's wrong, I think it's a dumb strategy."

"We can raise that money with people power," he continued. "[We can] raise it without selling our soul."

If Democrats play by the Republicans' rules, he said, "People will see us as weak. People will see us as Corporate Lite."

Yeah, uh, Russ? Too late. The Democratic soul has long since been sold and people already see the party as Corporate – I don’t know about Lite. Why don’t you just go Independent?

....but hey, do what you want....you will anyway.
